Okay, I’m finally back for a juice cleanse update.  Even though it didn’t end up being an actual cleanse, since I ate food during it.  And even though it ended four days ago.  And even though I’m using recycled pictures.  I’M SORRY, OKAY?! CUT ME A BREAK!

Whoaaa, outburst.

I’m reallllly on my game lately. Can’t you tell?

Recap Day 1

Juice Cleanse Pros:

1. It was easy to follow!  I loved not having to food prep, cook, and clean.  I also felt like I wasn’t constantly thinking about what snack I wanted to eat next, which I often do when I zone out during class.

2. Because the juices took so long to drink, I felt like I was constantly drinking a juice, which helped me get through the day.

3. It made me more in tune with my hunger cues.  I realized that, often times, I felt hungry when I was really just bored and stressed.  It also made me remember how good I feel when I eat healthy.

4. I actually started to look forward to the juices as the days progressed.  I think my palate got used to the vegetable taste!

5. Hydration! I was incredibly hydrated the entire cleanse.

Juice Cleanse Cons:

1. Expensive.  I spent about $100 for three days.  Crazy.

2. It made working out practically impossible.  That’s why I had to add a couple of real snacks during days two and three!  I wasn’t about to teach group exercise classes without any protein in ma bod!

3. It’s hard!  Who likes to be hungry all damn day?  Not me.

4. It’s really hard to go out with friends- good luck finding fresh carrot juice at your local pizza joint.

5. No fiber = decreased digestion… If ya know what I mean.

6. Lots of sugar! I definitely got a few sugar headaches throughout the three day period, but I think the real food I ate helped to stabilize my blood sugar.

7. Remember how I said I was super hydrated?  I also peed about 25 times per day. Like, for real. Not exaggerating.  I was constantly peeing.

Juice Reviews:

Blueprint “Green”- Kale, apple, ginger, romaine, spinach, cucumber, celery, parsley, lemon

Tastes like a salad, but slightly sweeter, a little tart, and spicy from the ginger

Suja “Master Cleanse”

Bizarre.  This was really yummy, but the heat from the cayenne pepper totally threw my off.  It definitely forced me to drink it slowly so that the back of my throat didn’t start burning!  It tasted like regular ol’ lemonade with a spicy sensation!

Suja “Fuel”

Carrot, orange, apple, pineapple, tumeric

YUM!  I could definitely taste the carrots, but the fruit made it super sweet and delicious.

Drink Me Raw Kale and Orange Juice

Yuck.  Stay far, far away.  This was chunky and pulpy and nasty.  I took one sip, drove to Whole Foods, and returned all three bottles.

Evolution Organic V

Not a favorite.  I could definitely taste the beets even though the bottle said it only had a “squeeze.”  But, it was still palatable, especially when poured over ice.

Evolution Pineapple Coconut

If you like coconut water, you’ll love this!  It was super refreshing and very sweet.  And it kind of tasted like sunscreen in the best way possible.

Honestly you guys? I hate writing recaps like this. I feel so unqualified because I really don’t have super strong views either way: I don’t think juice cleanses are amazing and life changing, but I also don’t think they’re harmful (as long as you do it in a healthy way, of course)!  Plus, I suck at recaps.  I’d much rather just write about what I eat in a day. It’s much easier.

Instead of me trying to write a helpful, detailed recap, why don’t you just ask me any questions you may have in the comments below.  Sound good?  Awesome.  You guys are the best.  Also, if you ever want to email me, please do: carly[dot]goldstein[at]yahoo[dot]com

HAPPY FRIDAY!!
